Anna is director of quality development at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust supporting NHS staff from across the UK to develop quality improvement and innovation capability and capacity, and to lead complex quality improvement work.
Prior to this Anna was executive director of quality for the West of England Academic Health Science Network where she combined her passion for improvement with innovation to lead improvement work in stroke prevention, maternity, tissue viability, renal services, MSK and tele-healthcare. Anna established an academy to train NHS staff and patients in innovation and improvement methods and launched the Health Foundation’s Q programme in the West of England.
Anna has more than 25 years’ experience working in health, education and social care. Alongside this Anna works as a consultant child and adolescent psychotherapist for 2gether NHS Foundation Trust one day a week.
Anna is skilled in involving service user and carers in the co-production of services. Using this approach she has won national awards, improved patient safety and patients’ experiences of care. She has generated income for the NHS in mental health, acute hospital and primary care settings.
Anna coaches individuals and teams and runs learning events which provide organisations with practical grounded bespoke approaches. These combine a love of quality improvement theory with years of operational experience.
Anna is a Health Foundation improvement fellow, an Ashridge Business School alumni and a visiting senior fellow for the University of Bath and the University of West of England. Anna has helped to develop a massive online open course on quality improvement in healthcare for the University of Bath which has trained more than 10,000 students to date.
In her spare time Anna volunteers at the Severn Wye Recovery College to co-produce peer led educational courses for young people recovering from mental illness. Anna is an active member of the Q network and a member of the West of England Q Commons Stewardship Group.
