Health Foundation’s Scaling Up Improvement programme 3

We are proud to be the official support provider for the Health Foundation’s third Scaling Up Improvement programme.

We are providing tailored support and coaching to seven fantastic projects which have been funded by the Health Foundation to scale up improvements across the NHS and improve care for thousands of patients.

• Telemedicine for adults with cochlear implants in the UK: empowering patients to manage their own hearing health care. This project aims to improve access to care and increase patient empowerment by scaling up a successful service where people with cochlear implants are offered a personalised online support tool, home hearing test and support to adjust devices themselves.
• Reducing brain injury through improving uptake of magnesium sulphate in preterm deliveries. This project aims to increase uptake of magnesium sulphate to protect babies’ brains during premature births.
• Implementation of Redthread’s hospital-based Youth Violence Intervention Programme in the Midlands to care for young people affected by violence. This project will support young people who attend hospital because of a violence-related injury in Nottingham and Birmingham, and aims to empower young people to lead healthy, productive lives away from cycles of violence and criminality.
• Scaling up a clinical effectiveness approach for Southwark to drive up quality and reduce unwarranted variation in general practice. This project aims to improve outcomes for patients within primary care in the London Borough of Southwark by making the right thing to do the easy thing to do for busy GPs.
• Improving surgical care for patients and their families in Greater Manchester – ERAS+ GM. This is an initiative to improve recovery following major surgery and reduce post-surgical complications using ERAS+, a proven pre- and post-surgery training programme.
• Pressure reduction through continuous monitoring in community settings (PROMISE): reducing and preventing avoidable and unavoidable pressure ulcers. This project aims to alleviate discomfort and reduce pressure damage in people at high risk of developing pressure ulcers by introducing monitoring and pressure adjustment using mattress and chair sensors.
• Scaling up virtual consultations across the NHS – implementing, evaluating and sustaining improvements. This project aims to spread the use of outpatient video consultations. It will create a virtual consultation unit within Barts Health and form a national network of sites.
